My 7 Biggest Takeaways After Creating On Medium For 2+ Years

# Possible advice for my past self

So I spoke to a fellow writer friend recently, and this topic came up in our conversation. Here’s the gist of our conversation:

1) Quantity leads to quality

Some may proclaim:

If I want to do stuff, it must be perfect. If it is not perfect, I might as well not do it at all. Quality over quantity always.

And they proceed to write 1 seemingly perfect article once every 2 months (and wonder why nothing is happening). After writing for 2+ years, I’ve learnt this:

Quantity leads to quality. Giving 70% effort 3 times per week is better than giving 210% effort once per week

Repetition leads to competence, and writing every 1–2 days at say 70% effort forces you to grow as a writer. And the quality that your baseline 70% effort increases over time.

Verdict — focus on quantity with a minimum level of quality ie 70%

2) Perfectionism is a waste of time
