648 Stories, 45166 Followers — 7 Lessons I Learnt in 3 Years On Medium
If someone told me 2 years ago that I’ll have more than 10,000 Medium followers, I’ll probably have said “haha u funny”. But somehow writing about weird stuff people don’t usually know about Python got me to where I am today.
Here are 7 lessons I learnt after 3 years of writing
1) more followers =/= more earnings
Logically, more followers == more readers == more reads == more money. Maybe this is true to some extent at the start. But this doesn’t scale linearly as the number of followers increases.
My highest-ever earning month was when I had 2,000+ followers! (one article went viral lol) And afterwards it was a bunch of random ups and downs.
Don’t think that a writer with 20k followers makes twice as much as another writer with 10k followers — it doesn’t work like that. So try not to have a disproportionate obsession with follower count.
2) Longevity and consistency wins
